2013 En Ka Street Fair Kicks Off Friday Night

The "Lucky 13" En Ka Street Fair, which is located at the Jenks Center parking lot across from Winchester Town Hall, will kick-off Friday and run from 5-11 p.m. It also runs from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. on Saturday.

Got a fever for more carnival rides? Then take a swing by the "Lucky 13" En Ka Street Fair on Friday and Saturday across from Winchester Town Hall in the Jenks Center parking lot. The fair, which runs from 5-11 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday, will feature 20 rides, book tents, carnival fare and a bargain box, according to an announcement from the En Ka Society. The event has been a community draw since 1935. One Quality Quilt Several En Ka Society members have also spent hundreds of hours creating a quilt that will be raffled off at the fair. Sheriff Koutoujian Introduces Senior Citizen Program

The TRIAD program focuses on empowering senior citizens to recognize fraudulent behavior.

Middlesex Sheriff Peter J. Koutoujian visited Winchester on Wednesday to meet with seniors at the Jenks Center where he spoke about the role of the Sheriff in the community, including his responsibility for the care and custody of inmates.  The sheriff spoke about educational and vocational programs put in place at the Middlesex House of Correction that provide inmates with opportunities to better themselves and learn skills that can help them be productive members of society following their release.  Koutoujian also discussed the Community Work Program which allows minimum security inmates who pass a rigorous screening process the opportunity to participate in community works projects in cities and towns across the county. Sheriff Koutoujian Visits Winchester

The sheriff will introduce a new program that benefits senior citizens.

Middlesex Sheriff Peter J. Koutoujian is stopping by the Jenks Center today to visit with Winchester senior citizens. The sheriff will join Ruth Young of the Winchester Council on Aging and Town Manager Richard Howard at 1 p.m. to discuss the department's new TRIAD Program and the sheriff's role in the community. The program focuses on empowering senior citizens to recognize fraudulent behavior by hosting educational events and providing tips and resources on how seniors can stay safe and avoid being the object of criminal behavior. Dr. Susan Briggs Examines a Century of Disaster Medical Response

Jenks Center hosts discussion on Boston as a Leader in Disaster Medical Response.

  When an earthquake reduces cities like Port-au-Prince, Haiti or Bam, Iran to rubble, or terrorists destroy sky scrapers in New York City, or a hurricane destroys New Orleans, Winchester native Dr. Susan Briggs and a volunteer team of doctors, nurses and other health professionals are the front line of mobile medical response. Dr. Briggs is the director of the International Medical Surgical Response Team (IMSuRT). She is also a general and trauma surgeon at Mass General Hospital and Associate Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School and past-president of the Pan American Trauma Association.
