Gusty northwest winds are expected Friday afternoon.
The National Weather Service is warning of elevated fire weather conditions developing Friday afternoon and continuing into Saturday for Massachusetts. Gusty northwest winds are expected Friday afternoon. The winds plus dry conditions will create a fire hazard, according to the NWS report. Elevated fire conditions will continue through mid-day Saturday, but winds should diminish in the afternoon. There is a “low probability” that southwest winds on Sunday will cause a wind advisory.

Rain combined with melting snow from the storm at the end of last week could cause minor flooding in streams Tuesday afternoon and evening, the National Weather Service said.
After the winter we've had so far, the warmer weather to start the week has been a welcome respite, but could cause flooding problems when rain passes through the area on Tuesday. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a flood watch for Winchester and much of Eastern and Central Massachusetts, in effect from Tuesday afternoon until Wednesday morning. Up to an inch of rainfall is expected on Tuesday, which combined with melting snow from the storm at the end of last week could cause some small streams to experience minor flooding, the NWS said. Winchester unofficially received 30.2 inches of snow as a result of the blizzard that smacked the region Friday and Saturday, according to figures released by the National Weather Service. Winchester tallied the second highest snow total in Middlesex County behind Framingham's 30.5 inches, according to the data. The numbers published by the NWS came from observers, spotters and media collected during the storm. The Winchester number was recorded at 3:19 a.m. Saturday. Figures from nearby communities include 28 inches for Somerville, 26 inches for Cambridge, 24 inches for Medford, 22.5 inches for Melrose, 22 inches for Stoneham and 20 inches for Malden. The Winchester area was expecting 18 to 24 inches of snow by the end of the storm, according to the National Weather Service.
One of the strongest winter storms seen in Winchester in years was expected to continue through Saturday morning, according to the National Weather Service. A blizzard warning issued by the weather service at 10:47 p.m. Friday was set to remain in effect until 1 p.m. Saturday. The blizzard warning said the Winchester area should expect the "strongest winds and heaviest snow through Saturday morning." Projected snowfall totals for the storm remained steady at 18 to 24 inches, and the National Weather Service was expecting winds of 25 to 35 miles per hour, with gusts up to 80 miles per hour. Between 12 and 24 inches of snow accumulation is expected, beginning Friday morning.
As of 3:19 p.m. on Wednesday, the National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Watch for Middlesex County, including Winchester, and much of Massachusetts from Friday morning through Saturday afternoon. According to NWS, much the state will be impacted by heavy snow with accumulation of 12 to 24 inches with the potential for blizzard conditions. The NWS previously forecast 14 to 18 inches in the Winchester area. That total has been increased to 18 to 24 inches in the latest forecast. (See photo.) A high wind watch has been issued for Wednesday night because of the possibility of wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour.
Wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour on Wednesday night could bring down trees and power lines, warns the National Weather Service. A high wind watch was issued on Tuesday at 4:42 p.m. by the weather service on Taunton for much of coastal and eastern Massachusetts, including Winchester, because the south-southwest winds at 20-30 mph could gust to 60 mph. The high wind watch means that the potential exists for strong and damaging winds in Reading and North Reading. The strong winds could bring down trees and power lines as well as cause property damage, the weather service said.
