How Much Snow Will Winchester Get?

Check out the latest forecasts for the Winchester region.

Updated at 2 p.m. Wednesday Boston is in for some wet weather Wednesday through Friday, according to local forecasts, but don't get out your snow shovels yet. For Boston, the local weather teams are not predicting very much snow. Instead, expect a lot of rain and maybe some heavy slushy snow in spots. While areas inland may get a half a foot of snow, Boston's bigger concern is the three high tides during this storm. Flooding may become an issue along the immediate coast. Here are the latest forecasts from the local television news weather teams for the Winchester region. All totals were updated Wednesday morning: WHDH (7 News): All rain WLVI (NewsCenter 5): 1-2 inches along the coast, six inches or more inland WBZ (CBS Local): 2-4 inches …

How Much Snow is Winchester Getting This Weekend?

Weather forecasters are predicting about 3-6 inches of snow in the Winchester area.

Will Winchester get pummeled this weekend with more than a foot of snow or will it be a half-foot with rain mixed in? The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch from Saturday afternoon through Sunday afternoon. The NWS said 6 inches of snow or more is possible and warned of heavy wet snow that may fall at 1 to 2 inches per hour. Snow may mix with rain in the Winchester area Sunday. The NWS warned that the heavy wet snow could bring down tree limbs and result in scattered power outages. Channel 7 meteorologist Pete Bouchard wrote on his weather blog: Storm start-up still looks like Saturday afternoon. We'll still be able to get around and the amounts will be light through midnight - in fact, we may even mix from Boston to …

Snowstorm Could Dump a Foot of Snow on Winchester This Weekend

Forecasters say Winchester region could get 8-12 inches of snow.

Once again, the snow is melting. But once again, don't put the shovels away: the weekend could bring more snow to the Winchester area. A new snowstorm is headed our way for Saturday and Sunday, forecasters say, and Winchester could see 8 to 12 inches of new snow before it's done. On his blog, WHDH meteorologist Pete Bouchard is calling for light rain along the coast Saturday with snow inland and snow across the region by Sunday morning. "Heavy snow through early morning Sunday. Roads will be tough to travel, and yes, your flight will most likely be delayed or cancelled. (Although I don't run an airline, so I'll let them have the final word.)," Bouchard writes.

UPDATE: WHDH Forecast Calls For Less Snow Thursday

WHDH's Jeremy Reiner expects "some patchy light snow/flurries" starting late Wednesday night into Thursday.

Update at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13 According to a WHDH blog post by Jeremy Reiner, it appears that less snow is expected to hit the Winchester area Wednesday night into Thursday morning. "The reason being is for high pressure here in New England that will be slow to budge and that will force the storm to find another way---a path much farther south than the (blizzard) took," wrote Reiner. "...With that said, some patchy light snow/flurries will arrive around 11 (p.m. Wednesday) along (Route) 7 especially south of the (Massachusetts) Pike (and) linger for the rest of the night. "A coating at most in the metro (region) to perhaps as much as 2 (inches) out on Cape Cod ... Couple of slick spots likely on the South Shore late (Wednesday night…

What Do You Think About Gov. Patrick’s Travel Ban?

Do you agree with the governor's decision or was it too drastic?

All non-emergency drivers were ordered off the roads on Friday when Gov. Deval Patrick issued an executive order banning travel during the blizzard. (Editor's note: The ban is lifted statewide as of 4 p.m. Saturday.) Patrick's executive order is being praised by some and bashed by others, reported The Boston Globe. While former Massachusetts Gov. Michael Dukakis, who was in charge of the commonwealth during the Blizzard of ’78, praised the governor’s move, others called the order “tyrannical” and say the strict ban and hefty fines were too much, according to The Globe. Those caught violating the ban would face up to a year in jail and a $500 fine. What do you think? Do you agree with the governor’s decision or do you think the travel ban …

People should use their common sense in situations like this--but there are always some who won't and will endanger others in the process. The ban was good in that respect, and the $500 fine certainly should have made folks think twice if they were hesitating over driving or staying home for no particular reason. However, the threatened jail time was absurd--and enough's been said about that here…   more ›

Share Your Photos: How Much Snow Do You Have?

Let's measure the blizzard through lawn ornaments!

We at Patch like to have fun – even when we’re covering a story as big as the Blizzard of ’13! So when the biggest storm in years (potentially in the history of Boston weather) is headed our way, we get into battle mode – and even get a little silly. That’s what this idea is about – and we want you to take part too! A fun way we want to track the storm across Massachusetts is through lawn ornaments. They serve a purpose in the spring and summer, but often feel left out in the cold of winter. Not anymore. We are posting photos of lawn ornaments throughout Massachusetts to highlight snowfall across the commonwealth during and after the storm. All you need to do is hit the Upload Photos and Videos button and upload your own. If we’re stuck at…

It seems that this overreaction by the government and the media has the same effect as political correctness. That is to say it makes us numb to words like "racist" and "dangerous conditions".....so that when we really need to be aware of those problems....we don't hear the warning or care.   more ›
