The Winchester Soccer Club (WSC) announces that two coaches, Julie Everett and Jim Neyman, are the recipients of the 2011 Carl Ockerbloom Coach of the Year Award. The Club received a record number of nominations from the membership through the online nomination process, and a selection committee that included Carl’s wife, Marie Ockerbloom, made the final selections. The Winchester Soccer Club’s Coach of the Year Award was dedicated to the memory of Carl Ockerbloom in 2005 after his passing from cancer. Carl was an active soccer coach and parent of three girls in the program over the years. Each year the WSC awards this honor to Coaches who exemplify the best qualities of youth …
Winchester will be holding its Second Match for Milan.
Life changed forever for Milan Moosavizadeh in May of 2010, when the young Winchester High Soccer star suffered a heart attack at a Memorial Day soccer tournament in. There were no defibirillators at the field and Moosavizadeh went nearly five minutes without oxygen. He was placed on life support over the summer and has since been taken off of it and returned home. Although he has defied dire medical odds, he still faces an uphill battle on his daily road toward recovery. A little over a year ago, Winchester rallied to help Milan with a Match for Milan. The second-seeded Winchester High School boy's soccer team lost to No. 11 Concord-Carlisle, 2-1, in the semifinals of the North Division 2 tournament on Friday at Woburn High School. After a bye in the preliminary round, the Sachems (15-3-2) beat No. 18 Belmont 1-0 and No. 10 Stoneham (9-3-7), before its loss to Concord (14-4-2). This is the second straight year that Concord-Carlisle eliminated Winchester from the tournament. Concord ended Winchester's season last year as it handed the Sachems their first loss, an overtime 1-0 defeat, in the North Division 2 finals.
