Winchester Youth Hockey Take Home Championship

The Winchester Mite A Youth Hockey Team defeated Wilmington in the finals.

The Winchester Mite A Youth Hockey Team clinched the Championship of the 9th Annual Woburn Turkey Day Classic Tournament. The Mite A's bested Arlington 8-1 and Woburn 7-3 to advance to the finals. In the Championship match, Winchester defeated Wilmington in a hard fought victory by a score of 4-3.

Free Coffee! Free Tolls! And More Thanksgiving Travel Tips

Here are some tips from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation to make your Thanksgiving travel a little easier.

Will you be driving on Thanksgiving night? If so, you can snag a free cup of joe courtesy of the state. And if you're hitting the Turnpike on Wednesday afternoon, you can also get on I-90 (for one hour) without having to pay the toll. Free coffee will be served at all 18 Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) service plazas between 10 p.m. on Thanksgiving until 5 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 23, courtesy of McDonalds, Burger King and Gulf. Meanwhile, Plymouth Rock Assurance will sponsor free tolls at the Allston-Brighton interchange on I-90 from 3 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 21.  Thanksgiving holiday traffic is expected to be at its peak on Tuesday, Nov. 20, Wednesday, Nov. 21 and Sunday, Nov. 25, according to MassDOT. What would a turkey be on Thanksgiving without its faithful side companions? Often more popular than the turkey itself, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce and other favorites are staples of the food coma-inducing meal. Try one of the recipes below to bring a new taste to your Thanksgiving feast. Gauge the amount of squash you’ll need by allowing 1 small squash (acorn and butternut are good choices) for every four people. Cut each squash in half lengthwise and remove seeds. Brush sides and inner cavity with olive oil and place flesh-side down on a lightly-oiled baking sheet. Don't forget about these closings during the Thanksgiving holiday. Government: All state, city and county offices are closed Thursday and Friday. Federal Offices will be closed Thursday, and no mail will be delivered. Banks: Local banks will be closed Thursday. School: Winchester schools will have early release Wednesday and are out for the rest of the week. Kids will return to school Monday, Nov. 26. Library: Winchester Public Library will close early on Wednesday, Nov. 21 at 5:30 p.m. and will remain closed for Thanksgiving. Winchester Center Hosts Annual Midnight Madness

The Winchester Community Music School will be performing in several Winchester Center stores while you shop.

Winchester Center shops will open for special hours from 6 p.m. to midnight the Monday after Thanksgiving, Nov. 26.  Holiday shoppers will find music groups, refreshments and special sales. Winchester Community Music School students will also perform at several shops. Each store, restaurant or service business does its own promotion, entertainment or refreshments. The Winchester Chamber of Commerce said this one day is often the single biggest shopping day of the year, and every Winchester Center shop is packed full and looks forward to welcoming hundreds of shop local supporters.  This popular event showcases Winchester shops like no other time.   Be part of the vibrant and exciting town center and shop, support and save.

WHS Sells Wilson Pies

Order forms must be completed by Wednesday, Nov. 14.

The Winchester High School Parent Faculty Association is selling the infamous Wilson Pies for Thanksgiving to support the Class of 2014. Choose from 12 delicious pies for $15 for the holidays. Pies include: You can conveniently pick them up at the high school or have them delivered for $5. Order forms and payment must be completed and delivered to the high school main office by Wednesday, Nov. 14. Pie pick-up will be Tuesday, Nov. 20 in the cafeteria between 2 and 3:30 p.m. Deliveries will be made during the same time. The order form is attached in PDF form.
