A number of local businesses are saluting veterans, military service men and women, and their families this Veterans Day by offering local discounts, specials and promotions. Here's a quick guide to many of these great deals to be found on Veterans Day throughout the Winchester area: For military service men and women only: THE DISH: more Secret Discounts! Remember, the whole point of Veterans Day is to thank and remember our troops and November is Military Family Month. Thank you to our troops and their families for your service, and thanks to all of the local businesses for supporting our troops and their families!

Spectators lined the streets to honor veterans.
The Winchest Veteran's Day Parade began at the high school, then went around the common, and concluded with a ceremony at town hall. The parade then stopped to place a wreath on the World War I monument behind the Lincoln School.

Winchester resident, Michael Regentz, recounts a story while he served in the Navy.
The following was submitted by Michael Regentz. Veterans Day reminds me of good times and some bad times when I was in the US Navy. It was 1965 and I was stationed aboard the USS Sampan, a guided missile frigate out of San Diego. The Vietnam War was in full tilt and we were ordered to relieve the USS Chickabow on station by May 12. We left San Diego to not one dry eye as our dependants on the pier waved us off. It was a cold March morning and we were to steam to Viet Nam via stops in Honolulu, Subic Bay, and then our first stop in China, the Hong Kong harbor. Little did we know how this trip would turn out.
