Week in Review: Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested and Town Center Changes

A 28-year-old Medford man was charged with unarmed robbery. According to Winchester Police, Michael J. Grande, 28, of Medford was charged with stealing $500 from Sovereign Bank in Winchester on Feb. 7. The town conducted a parking study, and according to the results, the Board of Selectmen and Planning Board were told that the lack of parking is hurting retail and restaurant sales and makes it difficult for clients to reach professional services. To combat those issues, the town is moving towards a parking management plan that would include pay stations around the town center and in the parking lots. The Winchester Town Center is an area in town that could see housing units added. The Planning Board and Town Planner, Betsy Ware, are …

Week in Review: Best Place to Live and Trial Date Set

Did you miss any news from Winchester in the past week?

Winchester was named one of the “Best Places to Live” by Boston magazine in the March 2012 issue.  It was named in the article’s “Swanky Town Smackdown” section that pitted some of the most popular towns in the Boston area up against each other.  The prosecution is attempting to have its psychiatrist look at the medical files of the Winchester father accused of killing his family. Thomas Mortimer, IV, is charged with four counts of first-degree murder of his mother-in-law, Ellen Ragna Stone, 64; his wife, Laura Stone Mortimer, 41; his daughter, Charlotte Mortimer, 2; and his son, Thomas “Finn” Mortimer V, 4. The trial is set to begin on Oct. 2, 2012. Winchester Hospital welcomed its first leap year baby on Feb. 29. Charlotte Jane was born …
