Massachusetts foreclosures decreased in January, posting double-digit decreases in both starts and completed foreclosures, according to the latest data from The Warren Group, publisher of Banker & Tradesman.
Completed foreclosures in Winchester and Massachusetts decreased in January, according to a Warren Group press statement. There were no foreclosure deeds, which represent completed foreclosures, recorded in Winchester during January, while there were two in January 2012. In January, there were 292 foreclosure deeds filed statewide, a 63 percent decrease from 799 deeds recorded in January 2012, reads the statement. There were no foreclosure petitions, which marks the start of the foreclosure process, filed against a Winchester property in January, while there was one filed in January 2012. While completed foreclosures in Massachusetts declined again in November, Winchester's foreclosures have dipped slightly compared to 2011, according to a Warren Group press statement. There were no foreclosure deeds, which represent completed foreclosures, recorded in Winchester during November, while there was one in November 2011. Statewide, 295 foreclosure deeds were recorded in November, a near 60 percent decrease from 731 deeds in the same month during 2011 and marking the sixth straight month of year-over-year declines. Year-to-date foreclosure deeds are unchanged in Winchester, with five recorded through the first 11 months of 2012, compared to five during the same time period the year before. This year, two homes have foreclosed in Winchester, as opposed to one all of last year.
While the housing market continues to improve as foreclosures have decreased across the state, Winchester saw a slight increase in home foreclosures this year, compared to 2010. Foreclosure deeds, which mark the completion of a foreclosure, decreased statewide by 50 percent compared to last year. While Winchester saw no foreclosure deeds in April the last two years, the town did see a slight increase in year-to-date foreclosure deeds. Only one foreclosure deed was completed by this time last year – this year, two have been filed in Winchester. However, home foreclosure petitions are down by half in Winchester compared to this time year last year, which follows the overall statewide trend, according to new data released by the Warren Group…
