Town Clerk Says Polls are 'Quiet' in Winchester

As of 3 p.m., more than 13 percent of the eligible registered voters had cast their ballots Tuesday during the U.S. Senate primary, according to Town Clerk Mary Elllen Lannon.

The polls have been "quiet" for the U.S. Senate primary on Tuesday in Winchester, according to Town Clerk MaryEllen Lannon. As of 3 p.m., more than 13 percent of the eligible registered voters had cast their ballots Tuesday during the U.S. Senate primary, according to Lannon. Of the 14,454 eligible registered voters in town, 1,907 had turned up at the polls, she added. When she went out to the polls at noon, Lannon described voter turnout as "slow and steady." Lannon is hopeful people will get off the commuter rail or come to the polls after work so "we can see a jump at the polls," she said. As far as running the election, Lannon said she always feels confident that things will go without a hitch and so far no problems have cropped up …

If you want to vote in the April 30 Senate primary election, you must register to vote by Wednesday, April 10.  Voter registration normally can be done through the mail, but not if you do it today since it is the last day to register to vote. Town Clerk's Office Ready For Election Day in Winchester

After spending weeks ramping up for the Town Election on Tuesday, the Winchester Town Clerk's office is ready to go, according to Town Clerk Mary Ellen Lannon.

After spending weeks ramping up for the Town Election on Tuesday, the Winchester Town Clerk's office is ready to go, according to Town Clerk Mary Ellen Lannon. "(We are) great," Lannon said in an email to Winchester Patch. "Everything is ready administratively. Voting machines have been tested and are ready to go." Voters can cast their ballots from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at eight precincts in town. The deadline to submit a letter of interest and resume is March 14.

The Winchester Personnel Board currently has an opening for a three-year term ending June 30, 2015, according to a press statemet.   "This board serves in an advisory capacity to town agencies and the Town Manager (Richard Howard)," reads the statement. "Duties include assistance in the coordination of collective bargaining activities, as well as making recommendations on compensation and personnel policies." You Ask, Patch Answers: Cost to Winchester For Upcoming Special Election

With a primary on April 30 and a final election on June 25, Winchester gets ready for a special election to fill the Senate seat vacated by John Kerry.

With a special election slated for this spring to fill the Senate seat formerly occupied by Secretary of State John Kerry, local election departments, including the Winchester Town Clerk's office, across the state are scrambling to organize. Some have asked how much the special election will cost Winchester. I asked Winchester Town Clerk Mary Ellen Lannon about the situation in Winchester. Lannon said special elections cost the city about $25,000. So, with a primary scheduled for April 30 and the state election scheduled for June 25, this year's special election will cost Winchester about $50,000. Winchester is seeking two positions to fill this year: members for the Finance Committee and Personnel Board. See the descriptions for each vacancy below. Who: One registered voter who holds no other town office can apply to serve on the committee for a term to expire 2013. What: The Finance Committee annually reviews the Town Manager’s proposed budget. After review and public hearing, the Committee prepares its recommended budget for town meeting action. Malden residents who want to vote in the 2012 presidential election and other federal and state races have until Wednesday, Oct. 17 to register. Here's how, with links to mail-in voter registration forms and how to request an absentee ballot.

Winchester residents who want to vote in the 2012 presidential election and other federal and state races have one month left until the Massachusetts voter registration deadline. The registration deadline is Wednesday, Oct 17. Typically the Winchester Town Clerk's Office is open from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. on the voter registration deadline day for in-person registrations.  Residents can also download a mail-in voter registration form on the Secretary of the Commonwealth's website. Once that form is filled out and signed, it must be mailed to the Winchester Town Clerk's Office (address above) and postmarked by Wednesday, Oct. 17 for you to be eligible to vote. Absentee Ballots Available for Winchester Voters

The State Primary is Thursday, Sept. 6.

Absentee ballots for the State Primary are now available for Winchester voters.  Registered voters or a family member of the voter can apply to have an absentee ballot mailed to them. These ballots are meant for voters who will be out of town, physically disabled or religious beliefs. The deadline to request a ballot is noon Wednesday, Sept. 5, the day before the Primary. College students who are registered voters are eligible to request an absentee ballot or have a family member request on their behalf. Voters do not have to register with a party in the state primaries. However, in primary elections, a voter must specify the ballot of the party of choice in the application.
