School Committee Member Cindy Bohne responds to a Winchester parent's letter about redistricting posted earlier on Patch.
What I believe we need as a community right now is graciousness and leaders that are courageous enough to weigh all of the information available and make decisions with clarity of purpose. As a School Committee Member, I strive to have the courage to help fulfill our educational mission with or without outside support or acknowledgement. Letter: School Committee Member Is Dishonest
A Winchester parent says a School Committee member said she did not know about a certain problem with the redistricting.
Dear Editor, During tonight's School Committee meeting, members present discussed the redistricting mistake on Map 1 that was recently acknowledged by the Superintendent for a portion of Washington Street. Cindy Bohne clearly stated during this discussion that tonight was the first time this situation (the mistake between Oak and Westley) was brought to her attention. The emails below between myself and Cindy clearly indicate otherwise. The email exchange documented here clearly shows that Cindy absolutely and unequivocally knew about this situation- she asked many questions in return, included a map of this area with the houses circled and even claimed to have driven around this area "to understand the dynamics." Student Receives Northshore Mall Scholarship
Taylor Crampton attends Salem State University.
Taylor Crampton, of Winchester, received the Northshore Mall Scholarship award at Salem State University. The Northshore Mall Scholarships are designed for residents of Essex and Middlesex counties, who have financial need and with preference given to employees of the Northshore Mall. WHS Sells Wilson Pies
Order forms must be completed by Wednesday, Nov. 14.
The Winchester High School Parent Faculty Association is selling the infamous Wilson Pies for Thanksgiving to support the Class of 2014. Choose from 12 delicious pies for $15 for the holidays. Pies include: You can conveniently pick them up at the high school or have them delivered for $5. Order forms and payment must be completed and delivered to the high school main office by Wednesday, Nov. 14. Pie pick-up will be Tuesday, Nov. 20 in the cafeteria between 2 and 3:30 p.m. Deliveries will be made during the same time. The order form is attached in PDF form.

Letter: School Committee Shows Little Transparency
A parent questions why the preference for the K Flex plan was not heard.
On Nov. 5, the School Committee voted to adopt Map 1 for the redistricting plan. Following the vote, numerous people in town expressed surprise by this decision. They felt that the K Flex plan had received wide-spread support and should have been the chosen plan. However, aside from Chris Nixon, the four other School Committee members continued to pursue and support their own agenda. They even failed to endorse their own Superintendent’s recommendation for the K Flex Plan. The preference for K Flex had fallen on deaf ears. Following the vote, I once again looked at Map 1 and was uncertain which school my house was being redistricted to. Letter to the Editor
Letter: Support Our Children
A parent asks Winchester to support any redistricting plan that is adopted for the children's benefit.
Today is the last day that the school committee is accepting public comment regarding redistricting as they prepare to make their decision next week. By all means, write and speak out for the plan which you believe to be best for the town, as we certainly have. Come tomorrow, however, the time for division is over. Each plan has merits and each plan will leave some neighbors in town unhappy. No doubt can remain, however, that whichever plan is chosen, our children will continue receive an outstanding education. The school committee, the superintendent, the RAC, and every member of the community who spoke or wrote should be commended for doing their part to improve our great schools. Winchester Scholarship Foundation Awards 103 Scholarships
The Winchester Scholarship Foundation has awarded approximately $2 million to local students.
The Winchester Scholarship Foundation gave $318,000 in scholarships to 96 Winchester students in 2012. During the last five years WSF awarded close to $2 million in scholarships. “The need for scholarships remained strong in 2012” said Nancy Kinton, WSF President. “Since 1945 WSF has helped bridge the financial gap between higher education costs and a families’ ability to pay. As college costs continue to rise and our economy continues its slow recovery, help is needed now more than ever. The burden on financially-strapped families is staggering.
