6 Ways to Keep Warm in Arctic Cold

Cold temperatures are predicted for the area.

The National Weather Service is calling for cold temperatures this week. Winchester will have a high near 23 today and wind chill values as low as -4, and a low around 17. High temperatures will rise about 35 starting again on Friday. Here are some tips, courtesy of the National Weather Service, to keep in mind during this Arctic cold. 1. Minimize outdoor activities, especially for the elderly and very young. 2. Dress in several layers of loose-fitting clothing rather than a single layer of heavy clothing. 3. Wear a hat, mittens and waterproof boots. Cover your mouth with a scarf to protect your lungs. 4. Coldest Air of the Winter, With Wind Chills to Zero, Moving In

The coldest air of the winter is moving in on Wednesday, but expected to move out by the weekend.

The coldest air of the winter to date—by far—is moving in to Hamilton and Wenham on Wednesday. Windchills are expected to be close to zero on Wednesday morning and possibly below zero on Thursday morning, which will be the coldest day since last February. The National Weather Service said that Wednesday night's low temperature in Medford would be around 6 degrees with wind chill values as low as -2. On Thursday, the high should reach near 25, but the wind chill will make it feel as cold as -2 during the day. The windchill temperature on Wednesday morning will be near 0, according to WHDH Chief Meteorlogist Pete Bouchard in his most recent blog, because of "a steady (not strong) breeze."
