Winchester Man Named to Dean's List at Mercer University

A Winchester man was recently named to the Dean's List for the spring semester at Mercer University, according to a press statement. Junior Trevor Young, of Winchester, was named to the Dean's List of Mercer University's Townsend School of Music for the spring semester, according to the statement. Inclusion on this list requires students to meet rigorous grade-point-average standards for the Townsend School of Music, reads the statement.

Flash Floods May Hit Winchester Region Tuesday

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning Tuesday afternoon.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for the Winchester region and Middlesex County Tuesday afternoon. The warning is in effect from 2:46 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. Tuesday. "Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area," reads the warning. "...These storms can drop 1.25 inches of rain within 30 minutes. Areas prone to flash flooding include Route 9 from Metrow West into Boston." "A Flash Flood Warning is issued for rapid and potentially life-threatening flooding. In urban areas avoid flooded roadways and obey road closures. Those living along streams and creeks should move to higher ground immediately to protect life and property," reads the warning.

A Winchester woman was recently named to the Dean's List at Beloit College for the spring semester

A Winchester woman was recently named to the Dean's List at Beloit College for the spring semester, according to a press statement.  Jessica Ritenhouse, of Winchester, is a first-year student at Beloit, according to the statement. Beloit College is a residential, liberal arts college offering 40 majors to its 1,250 students, reads the statement.

Firefighters Respond to Two-Alarm Fire in Winchester

A two-alarm fire broke out at a Highland Avenue home Monday evening.

Winchester firefighters responded to a two-alarm fire broke out at a Highland Avenue home Monday evening. Around 5:30 p.m. Monday, police and fire officers responded to the fire at 344 Highland Ave. in Winchester. The first responding company found heavy smoke showing from rear of the home and the roof section and a second alarm was ordered, according to Winchester Fire Chief John Nash. The cause of the fire is still being investigated, but lightning most likely caused it, according to the fire chief. "(Firefighters) were able to knock down the bulk of the fire immediately at the building and then worked their way up into the attic to make sure the fire did not extend across the entire attic," Nash said, adding that no one was inside the …

Clara Mills and Danielle Orsi, both of Winchester, made the Dean's List at Franklin-based Dean College, according to the statement. Students are eligible to be named to the Dean's List if they have successfully completed an academic course load of 14 credits per semester with a grade-point average of 3.3 or higher, with no grade below B-minus, according to the statement.

Wounded MBTA Officer Released from Hospital

Winchester native and injured MBTA Officer Richard Donohue Jr. was released from a Charlestown hospital Friday.

Winchester native and injured MBTA Officer Richard Donohue Jr. was released from a Charlestown hospital Friday, according to a WHDH-TV report. “The doctors that were out in Mount Auburn that day, I guess I was lucky they call it the dream team, they say they never worked together and that particular day they were working together, they pieced me back together,” Donohue said in the report. Donohue, 33, of Woburn, left Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Charlestown, where he has been recovering after being shot in the leg during a shoot-out with the Boston Marathon bombing suspects in Watertown in late April. “I can take a few steps on my own.
