Winchester High School fell, 2-1, to Burlington on Monday night in the North Division 1 championship game.
There's a high possibility that the Winchester High School boys' hockey team will be back in the North Division 1 title game. But that was no consolation for coach Matt Spang on Monday night. The Sachems knotted the score in the third period on a Nolan Redler tally but eventually fell, 2-1, after being outscored in a shootout by a 3-1 margin on the ice of Lowell's Tsongas Center. As a result, Winchester was eliminated while Burlington moved on to play Sunday for a second straight state championship. The good news for the Sachems is that the team loses just two seniors, and the future is seemingly bright. Spang, however, wasn't quite ready to look towards next year. "That's for another day. The Winchester Youth Hockey Squirt Bs won the Massachusetts State Championships this weekend in Hyannis. Winchester won all three of their preliminary games before advancing to the semifinals where they beat Waltham. The Bs topped Holy Name in the finals. The Winchester Youth Hockey Squirt Bs team members include Richard Russo, Robert Bordonaro, Frank Napolitano, Jack McDonald, Brendan Gill, Ryan Welch, Charlie Ladd, Jack Riley, Derek Kimball, Trevor Mahoney, Zach Travaglini, Jack Bosco, Gavin Walsh, Hudson Durant and Jack Mackey. The Bs coaching staff includes Tom Mahoney, Adam Durant and VJ Ladd.

The Winchester Mite A Youth Hockey Team clinched the Championship of the 9th Annual Woburn Turkey Day Classic Tournament. The Mite A's bested Arlington 8-1 and Woburn 7-3 to advance to the finals. In the Championship match, Winchester defeated Wilmington in a hard fought victory by a score of 4-3.

Winchester Football alumni, parents and fans are gathering to honor a new tradition in the name of the sport they all know and love. The first Winchester Football Pride Night will bring together fanatics while supporting local charities with all the proceeds. The throwdown is Tuesday, Nov. 20 at the Sons of Italy on Swanton Street. Cocktails start at 6 p.m. and dinner follows at 7 p.m. The night will include: Tickets are $35 per person, and tables of 10 are available for reservation. The Sachems scored late in the game, but Watertown held on for a 2-1 victory in the MIAA North Section Div. 2 semifinal.
Watertown took a two-goal lead in the first half, but Winchester put the ball in the back the net with under three minutes to go to make a tense ending in the MIAA North Section Div. 2 field hockey semifinal Friday night in Reading. Allie Doggett put No. 1 seed Watertown (20-0) into the lead nine minutes into the first half, and Kayla Johnson doubled the lead with seven minutes left in the first half. The No. 5 Sachems (16-4-1) pressured the three-time defending state champs much of the second half, and senior co-captain Emily Savage scored off a scramble in front of the goal with just under three minutes left in the game. You might be able to find help fighting breast cancer and other types of cancers at your local grocery store and fitness centers, according to the research findings of Dr. Marian Neuhouser, Ph.D, RD. Dr. Neuhouser is a nutritional epidemiologist with a background in nutritional sciences. She is an investigator at Seattle’s Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Her research is focused on lifestyle factors such as nutrition and physical activity. Some factors may prevent breast and prostate cancer and improve survivorship in those diagnosed with cancer.
