Hundreds Attend Authorfest in Winchester

There was a strong showing at the annual Authorfest event held Tuesday in Winchester.

A few hundred people attended Authorfest Tuesday for the chance to meet authors and illustrators from the New England region. A combined 16 authors and illustrators visited with Winchester Public School students during the day, followed by a book signing at Town Hall, according to event organizer Ceci Cordeiro. She added that this year's Authorfest was either the 15th or 16th time the event has been held in town. "We had 14 authors come to the elementary schools, one author did all of (McCall) Middle School and one author visited (Winchester) High School," Cordeiro said. "Each author does three presentations. Winchester Personnel Board Needs a New Member

The deadline to submit a letter of interest and resume is March 14.

The Winchester Personnel Board currently has an opening for a three-year term ending June 30, 2015, according to a press statemet.   "This board serves in an advisory capacity to town agencies and the Town Manager (Richard Howard)," reads the statement. "Duties include assistance in the coordination of collective bargaining activities, as well as making recommendations on compensation and personnel policies." Members are appointed by a committee of three: the Town Moderator, the Chairman of the Board of Selectmen and the Chairman of the School Committee, reads the statement. Check out our photo gallery from the 10th annual Winchester Foundation for Educational Excellence that took place Wednesday night at Town Hall.

Town Hall was abuzz Wednesday night for the 10th annual Winchester Foundation for Educational Excellence (WFEE) Trivia Bee. A few hundred people attended the community event which featured several rounds of trivia played by five 5th grade teams representing the local elementary schools as well as adult teams.  There was a tie for first place between Lincoln and Lynch Elementary Schools, so they will be sharing the Trivia Bee Trophy this year. The Lincoln School team was made up of Adrienne Anderson, Joey Charchaflian and Henry Wheaton, while the Lynch School squad consisted of Venkat Rao, Michael Wentworth and Max Lu.  Meanwhile, the Winchester High School Faculty team. Team members included Tom Gwin, Dave Benedetto and Mark Chase.
