Police Identify Winchester Man Killed in Motorcycle Crash in Boxboro

On Monday Boxboro police identified the 19-year-old Winchester man that died in a motorcycle crash early Sunday morning.

Police have identified the Winchester man killed in a motorcycle crash early Sunday morning in Boxboro as William Wickerham.

A rescue team responded at 4:03 a.m. to 332 Massachusetts Ave. for a report of an accident, according to a Lowell Sun report. Paramedics determined that the man, identified Monday by police as Wickerham, was dead at the scene.

Wickerham, 19, of 46 Glen Road, was traveling east on the state highway when he lost control of his motorcycle and struck a tree, according to Boxboro Police Chief Warren Ryder. Ryder noted that there was "little to no traffic" at the time of the crash.

Speed is considered a factor in the crash, according to Ryder.

"Based on the initial investigation, he was traveling at a high rate of speed and he was able to negotiate the first part of the S curve but not the second," Ryder said. The police chief added that the speed limit is 40 miles per hour on that stretch of the state highway that dissects Boxboro before dropping to 25 miles per hour at the S curve.

It is unclear if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash and won't be determined until toxicology testing is completed, according to Ryder.
