Police: Swastikas, Obscenities Graffitied on Wildwood Cemetery Headstones

Officers responded to a report of vandalism at Wildwood Cemetery at 10:59 a.m. on Friday, October 25.

Officers spoke with several Department of Public Works workers, who showed officers several defaced graves on Emerson Avenue, between Walnut Avenue and Saraco Way.

Someone drew swastikas, and obscene words and symbols on about 10 headstones using orange spray paint.

Officers photographed the vandalism and searched nearby trash cans for evidence. Officers found a can of Gatorade near the site and found firewood near the section of the graveyard called “The Quarry.”

“We have experienced similar instances in the last six months,” Lt. Peter MacDonnell said. “This instance is the largest one we have dealt with. The targeted graves do not appear to be of Jewish people. Given the obscenities, we believe this is the work of juveniles.”
